The Convention People Party (CPP) says attempts by the Minister for Economic Planning and Regional Integration, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom to malign the party’s leadership to “further a parochial agenda will be an exercise in futility. The Convention People’s Party views with concern statements in the media attributed to Dr Nduom to the effect that there is a simmering agenda by a significant number of CPP leadership to politicize and exploit the Yendi crisis with the aim of turning the party against the government of the New Patriotic Party”.
A statement signed by the General Secretary, Nii Noi Dowuona described the statement by Dr Nduom as factually incorrect and smacking of mischievous intent. It said the CPP leadership has not commented on the Yendi crisis ever since it sent a message of condolence to the Chiefs and people of Dagbon considering its sensitive nature. “The party has not discussed the matter thereafter either at the Central Committee or at any official level, because members are very conscious of the sensitive and explosive underpinnings of the crisis. This position was guided by the CPP’s avowed policy of promoting national cohesion, peace and stability”, the statement added.
The CPP says comments and public comments so far made on the Yendi crisis by individuals whose leanings cut across the political divide do not represent the official position of their respective political parties. Dr Nduom, a leading member of the CPP was appointed Minister by the NPP government as part of its all-inclusive government policy.
