The National Youth League of the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP) on Wednesday affirmed support for the National Executive Committee of the party’s quest to revamp it as a vibrant political entity in the country.

The CPP National Youth League calls for total collaboration, unity of purpose and commitment from all leading members, former regional and national leadership, women and youth wings, to work together to rebuild the CPP.

The CPP Youth League in a statement signed by Mr Nabila Alhassan Basiru, Acting National Youth Organiser of the Party and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra stated.

The Youth also called on the media to disregard a purported Youth League statement not signed by the National Youth Organiser.

He said individual members of the league could speak in their personal capacity “but we must be cautions not to generalise issues”.

The statement said: “The core group of the National Youth League leadership hereby disassociates itself from the purported release and condemns the actions of individuals who unilaterally issue press statement without consultation and approval from leadership of the youth league.

“The purported statement does not represent the views and aspirations of the leadership of the National Youth League and the Youth of the CPP. The National Youth League ascribes to the tenants of party supremacy and holds this ideal sacrosanct and shall at all times protect the interest of our dear party.”

The National Youth League therefore affirmed its unflagging support to the current leadership of the CPP.

“We the leadership of the Youth League will like to unequivocally affirm our confidence in the National Executive of the CPP headed by Professor Edmund N. Delle.

“We call on all Party members to give the Party leadership the support and encouragement as they map-up strategies to revamp our great Party. The entire leadership needs the support of the rank and file to serve the Party.

“It’s an established fact that Prof Delle contested the CPP chairmanship unopposed with an overwhelming endorsement from all 10 regions. He was subsequently affirmed at the national delegates’ congress.

“It’s also an inevitable truth that prior to his affirmation the National Executive Council (NEC) meets which by Party constitution is the second highest body in the Party as stipulated by Article 66 and 74 of the party’s constitution,” the statement said.

“Comrades the CPP needs internal unity to propel it forward. We must work together to build the great CPP.

“We must eliminate internal wrangling, as forces working against the interest of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah are up in arms to reduce the stature of the Founder of the nation in national political-history,” the statement said.
