CPP appeals to former party loyalists

Ho, Nov. 3, GNA - Mr. Prince Ahiadzro, Volta Regional Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), has extended a hand of welcome to all former loyalists of the party who have joined other parties in the region to return and help re-establish its invincibility in the region and the country.

"Volta Region used to be the stronghold of CPP before it became the 'World Bank' of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and now that we are re-organising and fine-tuning our party we urge our comrades and patriots who had defected to come back home", he said.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Ahiadzroh said the CPP would win at least eight parliamentary seats in the region during the 2004 elections as the party is fashioning out a strategy. ''This will demonstrate that the party still maintains its strength and appeal on the Ghanaian political landscape.''

Mr Ahiadzroh urged party loyalists to imbibe the party's ideology as a tool for party organisation and activism that has been its source of strength during the pre-independence period and the immediate post independence era.

He appealed to the security agencies to ensure a level playing field for political activities leading to next year's elections and during the elections as that is crucial for ensuring that the real choices of the electorate triumph.
