CPP congratulates NDC

... for retaining Tamale Central Constituency seat
Tamale, April 06, GNA - Mr Albert Atutiga, Northern Regional Chairman of the Convention People's Party (CPP) has congratulated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for retaining the Tamale Central Constituency seat in Tuesday's by-election.

He also congratulated Mr Inusah Fuseini, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for winning the seat with a greater margin and urged him to fulfil his campaign promises to meet the people's aspirations.

"Though it was a forgone conclusion that the NDC would win the seat, we did not expect such a margin, they have shocked us all because we thought the party is dying," Mr Atutiga told the GNA in an interview in Tamale on Thursday.

Mr Atutiga said the CPP would meet and deliberate on why the party performed badly in the by-election and correct their mistakes before the 2008 elections, which the party was sure to win.

He commended the electorates within Tamale Central Constituency for comporting themselves for a successful and peaceful by-election ever in the history of by-elections in the country saying, "No known incident was recorded during the campaigns, the elections and after."

"This is why the Tamale Central Constituency by-election should be used as a case study to guide future by-elections to be peaceful, orderly, free and fair to give meaning to the country's democracy," He added.

Mr Atutiga expressed appreciation to the police, Election Observers, the public and the media for the role they played in ensuring that the election was peaceful and described whole process as a victory for Dagbon and not only for the electorate in Tamale Central Constituency.
