CPP elects Haizel for Takoradi Parliamentary Seat

Takoradi, June 14, GNA - The Convention People's Party (CPP) at the weekend elected a Takoradi-based Legal Practitioner, Mr Eustace Haizel unopposed to contest the Takoradi Constituency Parliamentary Seat. Dr Essuah Kwesi, Medical Practitioner, who filed his papers to contest the primaries, withdrew his candidature, thus paving the way for Mr Haizel to be elected unopposed. The Electoral Commission conducted the election.

Addressing the gathering after his election, Mr Haizel said most Ghanaian electorate were fed up with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that have been trading in accusations and counter-accusations against each other almost everyday. "The Ghanaian electorate are, therefore, yearning to give their votes to the CPP to take over the reins of government from the NPP if only the Nkrumaist parties could bury their differences and come together as a united force", Mr Haizel said.

Mr Haizel, therefore, appealed to the People's National Convention (PNC), the Great Consolidated People's Party (GCPP) and National Reform Party to reconsider their stand and rejoin the CPP to make the victory of the Nkrumaists in Election 2004 a must.

He said he was confident that he would win the Takoradi Constituency seat and urged the people of Takoradi to rally behind him to win the elections to enable him to help to improve the living standards of the people in the area.

Mr Haizel noted that Takoradi was faced with high unemployment rate and said if voted into Parliament he would fight hard to bring investors and industries into Takoradi to absorb the unemployed people and charged members of the Party to intensify their campaign in a peaceful manner. He appealed to the Government to consider putting up more warehouses in Takoradi to store both import and export goods from Burkina Faso and Mali as well as goods belonging to other industries in the country. Mr Haizel noted that the construction of more warehouses in Takoradi would generate more revenue for the country as well as give employment to the people of Takoradi.

He also suggested to the Government to go into intensive oil exploration to save the country from the high imported oil bills. 14 June 04
