CPP is not stumbling block ...

... to unity of Nkrumaist parties-Dr Delle

Kumasi, June 11, GNA - Dr Edmund Delle, National Chairman of the Convention People's Party (CPP), has described as erroneous the notion by some people that the party was a stumbling block to the unity of the various Nkrumaist groups.

Contrary to this notion, he said, it was rather the CPP, which has initiated measures and continued to explore avenues to bring the various political parties of the Nkrumaist family under one umbrella. Dr Delle was addressing the first national conference of the Council of Elders of the CPP in Kumasi on Friday, which was attended by 50 elders of the party including delegates and observers from all over the country.

The two-day conference was used as a platform to discuss and adopt a paper on the organisation of the Council of Elders and the formulation of rules and regulations regarding membership of the council. New officers of the national council were also elected at polls organised by the Electoral Commission with Mr K. Amoah-Awuah emerging unopposed as the National Chairman.

Mr Samuel K. Reiley Poku and Madam Supi Bentsi-Enchil were also elected unopposed as first vice-chairman and second vice-chairperson respectively.

Others elected unopposed were Mr Owusu Gyimah, secretary, Madam Janet Boadi, treasurer and five other executive members including Mr B.K. Senkyire, Mr Kwasi Prempeh and Nana Bosompem Frimpong. The remaining executive members are Mr Kwame Gadagbui and Alhaji Sadik Lamini.

Dr Delle said, "We still insist that the CPP is the pillar and foundation of the Nkrumaist family and for that matter all splinter entities should feel free to come back to their roots, the CPP". He said the CPP unlike other parties, when voted into power, would not depend on outsiders for the planning of development schemes. "We are going to build on the intellectual capacity of our indigenes and explore the skills of such people to meet all our developmental aspirations", Dr Delle said.

Dr Delle charged the Council of Elders to focus more on helping to address critical issues confronting the party and be creative in their policies to enable the party win power in the forthcoming elections. The newly elected national chairman of the Council of Elders, Mr Amoah-Awuah, said the CPP was not fragmented, stressing, "we are not fragmented, neither are we disintegrated but only disorganised". He said the CPP required re-organisation and that the party was not divided. 11 June
