CPP leadership hails merger talks with PNC

Accra, Aug. 2, GNA - The leadership of Convention People's Party (CPP) has commended the recent decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of People's National Congress (PNC) to endorse the merger talks between the two parties.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, General Secretary of CPP said "We for our part remain totally committed to this all important process especially in this the centenary year of our collective illustrious Founder, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah".

"His rallying cry was that organisation decides everything. This was the cry heard by the great indomitable Dr Hilla Limann and his colleagues that took them to power with the People's National Party (PNP) in 1979.

"Today, we stand ready once again to heed this call and strive assiduously to unite, merge, organise and deliver true Nkrumahist policies that can lead our country to its true potential. To achieve this goal of merger we come to the table with open and sincere hearts fully ready to cooperate on all issues that may have divided us before. We for our part have resolved irrevocably to be divided no longer".

"In this regard, the possibilities of CPP placing her full and total support behind Kasim Abdul Karim, the PNC candidate in the Atiwa bye-election must be discussed. The victory of the PNC is surely a victory for the CPP.

"This interaction and unity of purpose represents another step that shall surely bring us together in this our quest to merge once and for all," he said.
