The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has sent its condolences to the overlord of Asanteman, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, over the death of his mother, Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem.
“The CPP has learnt with deepest regrets the journey of Abrewatia, the Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem to ‘the village’. On behalf of my good self and that of the flag bearer and leadership of the CPP, we wish to express our heartfelt condolence to Oyoko Abusua, Asanteman, and especially Krobea Asante Kotokohene, Otekokooso Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,” a statement signed by the party’s chairman, Prof Edmund Delle, said.
“We are moved beyond words to describe the enormity of this loss, considering the bulwark of wisdom we have lost in the person of Baapanin Nana Asantehemaa. We recall the diplomacy and dexterity she was made of, when through her instrumentality Asanteman had such a great king in the person of the sitting Otumfuo,” the statement noted, adding: “The display of unequalled astuteness in kingship, administration, education, and, above all, justice by the Otumfuo does not come only from learning and life experiences but could be seen to have run through your blood, Baapanin Nana Abrewatia.”
The statement said the party would have loved to have her forever as the backbone to the Asante kingdom and Ghana as a whole but they were even more convinced that she would now be of better help to the living as she operates from the ancestral world.
Nana Afia Kobi, the 13th Asante queen, died at the age of 111. She was the biological mother of the reigning king.
The one week celebration of her death has been fixed for Thursday, November 24.
