Cape Coast, Jan. 11, GNA - The Convention Peoples' Party (CPP), on Tuesday, said it would take an aggressive stance to sustain the country's economy internally and wean it off the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (WB) and other financial institutions.
Mr Ladi Nylander, the chairman of the Party said this at a press conference, to outline its 93how the CPP will do it: reaching out to the grass root" programme, in Cape Coast.
He said for the economy to be independent of foreign assistance, the Party will have to re-design existing agreements for the exploration of Ghana's natural resources.
The programme was attended by the big wigs of the party, among them, were the newly formed shadow ministers, made up of Professor Agyemang Badu Akorsa, for Health, Abu Sakara, Agriculture, Mr Kojo Armah, Education and Naa Kordoi Addy, Social Welfare.
Others were Wing Commander (rtd) Pat Sorgbordzor, Defense, Mr Bright Akwetey, Justice and Attorney General, Kwame Gyantoah, Energy and Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, Finance and Economic Planning. He said the CPP's 93bring the economy back home" policy, is to en= sure that Ghanaian entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and workers became th= e main players, as well as beneficiaries, of its resources, and that, it will give full financial and technical support to local companies to enable them to perform well, he said. Mr Nylander noted that, all these measures are to help prevent the situation where the future of the country's children will be mortgaged through bad loan agreements and other deals, such as the STX Korea and the current oil and gas agreements, contracted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration. He said a CPP government will not divest the Ghana Railway Service and the Agricultural Development Bank, but would work to develop and maintain them for the benefit of all. The CPP chairman said it will also set up an agricultural development process that will be community based, to allow community participation and ownership while environmental management will also be on the same basis to sustain it. He said the economy, as well as investment potentials of every region, will be incorporated into the national development plan, to foster continuity in the event of a change of government, and underscored the need for the country to pursue a national agenda devoid of political interference.
"The CPP will build a strong economy and a new Ghana, where the econ= omy will depend on the human resource of the country, with the youth at the centre". Mr Nylander said the Party's supporters and sympathizers could not afford to offer conditional support, as it was seriously organizing right from the grass root to ensure victory.
