Accra, Sept. 12, GNA - The Cuban Solidarity Campaign (CSC) is organising 93Walk for Freedom" on Thursday, September 15, in Accra to demand the release of 93Cuban Five" from prisons across the United States of America.
The walk is also designed to protest the imposition of an illegal economic blockade on Cuba by the US.
A statement issued in Accra on Monday said the walk had been scheduled to begin at 0700 hours from Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle through Farisco Junction and end at the Hall of Trade Unions.
It said between 200-300 activists drawn from the CSC, Socialist Forum of Ghana (SFG), Ghana Trades Union Congress and Ghanaians Trained in Cuba would participate in the walk.
The Cuban Five; Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labanino, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez have languished in US prisons for 13 years for allegedly daring to fight against terrorist plots against their homeland.
They were accused of espionage and other crimes and detained unjustly by the US authorities, but so far no evidence has been produced to suggest that they were engaged in espionage against the US authorities.
Last year, Vice President John Dramani Mahama launched a signature campaign for the freedom of the Cuban Five" and an end to the illegal economic blockade against Cuba.
The CSC collected more than 1,000 signatures from Ghanaians from all walks of life.
It urged all progressive forces, human rights advocates and pro-democracy forces to join the Walk for Freedom", a manifestation of solidarity with the friendly people of Cuba.
"Free the Cuban Five' now. End the blockade against Cuba," it added.
