The Volta Regional Health Directorate, has dispatched a medical team to Zongo Macheri in the Krachi Nchumuru District for “contact tracing” following the confirmation of a cerebrospinal case in the area.
The team would give prophylactic medication to identify contacts and screen people in the community, Dr Joseph Nuertey, Regional Director of Health Services told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday.
He said the person with the confirmed case of cerebrospinal meningitis is in stable condition and would soon be discharged from the hospital.
Dr Nuertey said the situation is under control and might not call for vaccination in the community.
Meanwhile, the region has recorded another suspected case of meningitis, Dr Yaw Ofori-Yeboah, Deputy Director, Public Health of the Regional Health Directorate told the GNA.
He said the latest case was recorded at Kpando, bringing to eight the number of suspected cases in the region so far.
