The Ghanaian press has continued to speculate on an eminent cabinet reshuffle, but the Castle, the seat of government, has remained silent on the issue. But in its current issue, the Voice private newspaper said the cabinet shake-up could happen this week. It said the "reshuffle is to give a new shine to the government and remove those who talk more than they can do."
The newspaper quoted a speech by President John Kufuor to his Ministers in April, explaining that time was not on the side of government to deliver.
"So in this context, it is expected that practical doers and not those who have been trying desperately to play with language will be offered a chance to rescue the bad image the government enjoys now," the Voice said.
The government has been under pressure to deliver on its electoral promises, especially to improve the economy. The opposition National Democratic Congress accuses the government of inaction, but the Kufuor Administration has fired back, saying it is clearing the mess left behind by the last government.
