The gathering here this morning had originally been called to be a National Executives Committee (NEC) meeting meant to demand from the leadership of our party:
1. The deciding on the dates of opening and closing of nomination for our party’s 2012 presidential and parliamentary candidates.
2. The deciding on the dates to hold congress to elect our presidential candidates.
But as you may all have heard yesterday (29/11/2011), the Central Committee of our party met and has decided to open;
1. The filing of nomination for our parliamentary candidates from today (30/11/2011), with the closing date to be decided later.
2. The opening of filling of nomination for the presidential candidates on 4th January 2012, closing it on 27th January2012 with the congress to elect the Flag bearer tentatively fixed for 9th - 10th March 2012.
We the originators of the intended NEC found this satisfactory and thereby calloff our intended NEC and declare it cancelled.
We however would like to make the following facts clear;
1. It is not true that the initiators and organizer of this meeting are faceless and that the document sent to general secretary (GS) of our party is not signed. As can be seen the document sent to our GS was signed by over 46 NEC members of our party including regional executives from all the regions and even some national executives. These cannot be described as unknown and faceless. The statement that those behind the intended NEC are faceless therefore cannot be true.
2. The allegation that the originally intended NEC meeting was to undermine the authority of our national leadership is not true. In fact when all the signatures had been obtained and before it was formally delivered to GS a member of the planners visited GS in his house to inform him about it and discuss it with him. From the discussion, it was decided that since the leader and chairman of our party has travelled outside the country, the GS would discuss it with her immediately she returns. We believe that the holding of the hurriedly arranged central committee meeting on Tuesday 29th Nov. 2011, was as a result of the discussion that may have been taken place between GS and our national leader on this issue.
3. At the time of going round to collect the signatures, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, the 2008 Flag bearer of our party was not in the country and he was not even consulted in any way during the planning. Therefore he could not be behind our activity and thus be held responsible for it. The accusation to implicate him and associate him with us is therefore false and calculated attempt to tarnish his hard won reputation and image. Therefore the public insult that the leader and chairman of our party, Hon. Samia Nkrumah has heaped on him is unwarranted and uncalled for. We therefore call upon the leader and chairman of our party, Hon. Samia Nkrumah to unconditionally render her unqualified apology to Dr. Nduom and retract all the abuses she has heaped on his personality and character.
4. We wish to draw the attention of the general public and the good people of Ghana that if one carefully listen to what GS and the former chairman of our legal committee in particular and others are saying about the originally planned NEC, none of them could say that the plan was unconstitutional, illegal and wrong doing except to say that due process has not been followed. Meanwhile there is nowhere in our party constitution in which the process of our achieving such principles have been written. Therefore, to mealy to criticize a process which is not known is to beg the question admittance of the constitutionality and legality of the whole process.
Therefore, Comrades finally we wish to sincerely thank the gallant men and women of our great party for enthusiastically and willing signing the document when we called upon you. We sincerely appreciate your boldness and courage and wish to say that we are very satisfied with the response from our Central Committee. We therefore accordingly hereby called off and cancelled the NEC which had been scheduled for today. In fact the calling of CC meeting and deciding on a date is indeed as a result of the NEC we had intended. We think the purpose and object of our desire have been met and we are therefore very grateful to all who contributed.
We urge all the members of our party, the great CPP, to go back to their various constituencies to renew their strength and vigor to ensure a resounding victory of the party in the coming 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections
God Bless all of us.
Long Live Ghana, Long Live CPP.
Thank You.
