The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has disclosed that its duties extend beyond putting out fires to include other emergency response services.
The service stated that, in addition to handling fire outbreaks, it assists with emergencies such as rescuing individuals trapped in elevators and aiding victims of road accidents, among others.
Head of Public Relations, Mr. Desmond Ackah, revealed that GNFS personnel are well-trained to handle all types of emergencies when contacted through their emergency lines.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow 87.5FM, he emphasized that many Ghanaians perceive the GNFS solely as firefighters. However, the service also provides a broad range of emergency response services.
He noted, "We don’t only deal with fire outbreaks. Our duties include other emergencies. If you are trapped in an elevator, involved in an accident, or facing other emergencies, we are here to provide our services. All you need to do is call the emergency numbers—112, 192, or the hotline 0302772446—and we will respond within five minutes."
Mr. Ackah reiterated the GNFS's commitment to managing fire outbreaks and other emergencies. He also urged the public to call only in genuine emergencies and avoid prank calls.
“No matter where the fire outbreak or emergency occurs, we are equipped and trained to respond promptly when contacted on time. If you call the emergency numbers and do not prank us, we aim to arrive within five minutes, depending on the location of the incident and the proximity of the nearest fire station, to deliver the required services,” he stated.
