Callous husband remanded over failed attempt to kill wife

Issaka Bukari, a farmer, has been remanded into prison custody by the Nkawie Circuit Court over a failed attempt to kill his wife by poisoning her.

He had secretly laced corn dough the woman had bought to prepare meals with insecticide, but the powerful odour it emitted gave him out.

Bukari is facing the charge of attempting to commit murder, and had pleaded guilty.

The court presided over by Mr William Boampong ordered him to re-appear on June 26, to know his punishment.

Police Chief Inspector Listowell Agyemang Boateng told the court that the accused and Comfort Appiah have been married for some time now, but live in different houses, and that, about a month ago, the women expressed disinterest in the relationship and told him she was quitting.

The prosecution said Bukari did not take the threat lightly and threatened to kill her. Determined to carry through his threat, he sneaked to the woman’s house on June 4, at about 0700 hours, and administered a poisonous chemical, carrying the label, “SUNPYRIFOS WANYCA” to the corn dough.

Suspecting the accused of the crime, Comfort reported him to the police. The residue of the chemical was recovered from his room during a search after his arrest.
