Tuyini(NR), March 13, GNA - The Canadian High Commission has donated 98, 000 Canadian dollars to Community Life Improvement Programme (CLIP) a DANIDA sponsored NGO operating in some parts of the Northern Region to assist selected communities affected by last year's floods. It is part of the Commission's Emergency Response to floods situation in selected communities in the Northern Region.
Mr Adam Iliasu, Programme Coordinator of CLIP disclosed this during the distribution of food items at Tuyini in Karaga District. Nine communities in three districts selected for the package included Kukuobilla and Dipali in Savelugu-Nanton District, Nawuni and Singa in Tolon-Kumbungu Distict and Nanbrugu, Kpubo, Bagli, Tuyini and Tamalgu in Karaga District.
Mr Iliasu said the communities were selected from a report submitted by the Northern Regional Secretariat of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
He said CLIP undertook a baseline study and needs assessment in the nine communities and the package would be divided into immediate and medium term.
Mr Iliasu said under the immediate intervention, 15 most affected households in five communities, namely Kukobila, Dipali, Singa, Bagli and Tuyini would receive food ration and all households in the nine communities would receive aqua tablets for the treatment of water borne diseases.
Under the medium term intervention, Dipali, Tamalgu, Kukobila and Nawuni would be provided with hand pumps, seeds, insecticides and tools for small-scale irrigation.
Small ruminants would also be provided to some communities as an alternative to food production.
Mr Iliasu said 2,300 ceramic filters would be provided to all the households in the nine communities for use in the home and on the farm to prevent water borne diseases.
