The family of the late Frank Osei is reportedly gripped with fear that justice may not be served in their son’s murder case due to recent developments.

They worry that, like in other similar cases, this one may not lead to justice, especially since the main suspect, Safina Mohamed, appears to be undermining the proceedings with her lackadaisical attitude toward the court.

After a Tema High Court granted Safina bail of GH¢500,000, she was required to attend all court hearings.

However, she regularly skipped court, prompting the judge to issue a first bench warrant for her arrest.

On that day, her lawyer claimed that Safina was unclear about the court dates, which explained her absence.

On October 23, 2024, Safina skipped court again, resulting in a second bench warrant. This time, the judge, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, was firm, stating Safina would be arrested if she did not appear by 4 pm that day, according to Angel FM court correspondent Ama Brako Ampofo.

Neither Safina nor her lawyer showed up, which frustrated the judge, particularly because the victim's family travels from Kumasi to Accra for each hearing, while Safina, who lives in Accra, fails to attend.

The family’s anxiety has deepened due to Safina’s seemingly careless approach to this serious matter.

Reports also state that the family doubts she is still in the country and is alarmed by rumours that her recent suicide hoax may be an attempt to evade justice.

They are left wondering why neither Safina nor her lawyer appeared in court.

Background

Safina Mohammed, a 23-year-old student at the University of Ghana, was charged with the murder of her boyfriend, Frank Osei, a Ghanaian resident in Canada.

On Sunday, July 24, 2022, Frank Osei, who was on vacation in Ghana, visited Safina, his fiancée, at her residence in Ashaley Botwe School Junction, and decided to spend the night with her.

That night, Safina, along with accomplices yet to be arrested, allegedly stabbed Osei with a knife and strangled him.

The prosecution alleged that Safina and her accomplices cleaned up the blood from the floor while Osei’s body remained in the room for 24 hours.

They claimed the body was dragged from the first floor of the building through the staircase and dumped at the gate of the house, where Osei had parked his Toyota Tundra.

Safina allegedly called the police, claiming that her boyfriend had died in her room. Upon arrival, police found Frank Osei’s body lying at the gate of Safina’s house, leading to her arrest.
