Cannabis biscuit, toffee boom in Tema

Some unscrupulous persons in the Tema Metropolis have ventured into the mass production and sale of biscuits and toffees laced with dried leaves believed to be cannabis, DAILY GUIDE has gathered.

The illegal substances are being sold to unsuspecting members of the public, including pupils in basic schools in Tema and Ashaiman.

Besides the ‘cannabis’ biscuits and toffees, which are sold at GH¢2 and GH¢1 respectively, some unscrupulous traders sell wee bitters popularly called King-kung or Shocker in the area.

These drinks, biscuits and toffees, which are laced with cannabis, are believed to be depressants.

The traders usually sell the said products in drinking spots and pubs that have sprung up in Communities 1, 7, 10,11 and 22 in Tema.

The alcoholic beverages are mixed the marijuana to increase their efficacy.

In the Ashaiman Municipality, the said biscuits and toffees are sold at Taboo Lane, Tsinagbe, Zongo Laka, Taifa, Asensu Bar and Valco Flat.

Some youngsters loiter around the area and smoke, drink and dance to loud music played by drinking pubs.

Investigations also showed that minors travel from Ashaiman to the areas to smoke cigarettes and marijuana.

The vendors, who sell and harbour these drug users, also provide cheap sex for pleasure seekers who also patronize the services of teenage prostitutes.

They have sex in small cubicles dubbed ‘cold room.’
