Canoe Owners/Fishermen Association at Chorkor expresses appreciation to government

Canoe Owners and Fishermen Association at Chorkor, a suburb of Accra, on Friday expressed their support and appreciation to the Government for suppling them regularly with pre-mix fuel and outboard motors.

They apologised to the Minister of Food and Agriculture and the Sector Ministry for an allegation made by one Nii Abiala, who they alleged belonged to an NPP Fishermen group.

Addressing a press conference in Accra, Mr Amashie Kotey, a Fisherman who read a statement on their behalf said their attention was drawn to a publication by Chorkor Mantsuru Woleiatse group led by Nii Abiala, who accused Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, Minister of Food and Agriculture of allegedly insulting fishermen

Mr Kotey said they dissociated themselves from the publication saying, “Nii Abiala group does not speak for the fishermen at Chorkor and that the comments were unfortunate.

The Association expressed their appreciation for the allocation of four outboard motors to them to improve on their operations.

They suggested the establishment of a committee on the distribution of outboard motors similar to the premix fuel.

Mr Derrick Myers, Assemblyman for Chorkor explained that, the publication was a misinterpretation of what the Sector Minister said.

He explained that Mr Ahwoi advised the fisher folks to be watch-dogs and it was misinterpretated to mean they were dogs, which caused a lot of anger among the fisher folks.**
