Cape Coast: Youth block road to stop Melcom from constructing a wall

The youth in Cape Coast, Mpepretem this morning, blocked the major road in the area and also threatened to pull down a wall construction by Melcom Ghana in the Cape Coast Metropolis.

The protest led by a popular Cape Coast Musican, Okotor Perry is to prevent further floods in the community as a result of a wall being constructed by Melcom Ghana to redirect the main gutter in the area, he revealed to Osahene Kwame Dapaah on Okokroko FM in Cape Coast.

Speaking in an interview with Kweku Bee Abrante, manager for Melcom, Cape Coast branch, Mr. Kodwo Dadzie, refuted claims that, the wall will lead to flooding, he said the move is to prevent flooding that affect the company and also prevent the community from getting flooded hence the move.

He added, they have sought the requisite permission from CCMA engineers to enable them carry out the construction.

But leader for the agitating youth, Okortor Perry revealed to Kweku Bee that, the wall has caused more harm and has rendered most resident of the community homeless with water running into their rooms and stores.

Some of the residents recounted their losses to Kweku Bee Abrante during his visit. There were also several instances where residents were seen scooping water from their rooms.

PRO for the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, Richmond Yeboah who also spoke on Okokroko FM revealed that, Melcom had secured the requisite documents to carry on with the project. He also denied rumours, the construction will lead to flooding.
