There was massive jubilation amongst the people of Cape Coast, especially the youth, after the order by an Accra High Court for the Electoral Commission (EC) to allow the flag-bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, to rectify errors on his forms to contest the presidency in the December 7 polls.

The youngsters who had decided not to partake in this year’s voting after Dr. Nduom was disqualified by the EC welcomed the news with joy, saying their hopes have been restored.

Some were seen running about amidst shouts of “Nduom is back,” “He is back oo” to express their excitement upon hearing the news.

Master Kwame Nsaidoo, a fresh Senior High School (SHS) graduate was, particularly excited when he was interviewed by this reporter.

According to him, Nduom is the only candidate who can solve the soaring unemployment situation in the country.

He expressed confidence in Dr. Nduom (Edwumawura) to create jobs for him to be gainfully employed since he cannot further his education due to financial difficulties.

Another youngster, Danny Akpalo, a student, stated that he has decided not to vote this year because he was fed up with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but has rescinded his decision with Nduom’s inclusion.

He pointed out that Dr. Nduom has already created employment opportunities for millions of youth in the country and will totally eradicate graduate unemployment when given the nod to rule the country.

He added that a lot of tertiary students have this year decided to shun the NDC and NPP since they have not been of any use to the youth in terms of job creation.

Ms. Naomi Smith, another resident, in the area indicated that this year’s polls would have been boring without the PPP.

Ms. Smith who predicted a run-off due to the PPP’s inclusion stated that she will not be surprised if the PPP wins this year’s elections since Nduom has proved to be a force to reckon with during the last elections.

She described the PPP flag-bearer as the perfect gentleman Ghana needs to propel its development, adding “you hardly hear negative things about him.”

Some residents also blasted the EC Chair, Charlotte Osei, for her decision to disqualify the PPP and called for her removal.

A cross-section of the residents including teachers, traders and taxi drivers stated that “Nduom has an edge over the NDC and NPP.”
