The needless political propaganda and tension that clouds the election year could largely breed the grounds for disturbances in the lead up to the 2016 elections,Former National Security Advisor, Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah(Rtd) has warned.

Against this backdrop, Gen. Nunoo-Mensah has urge caution on the political games being played around, especially in the build up to the November polls, so as not to create any political tension while the country prepares for the crucial elections.

His comments comes on the back of the opposition New Patriotic Party guests- three South African ex-servicemen who were deported back to their country days ago by the ruling NDC government for the fear that they could endanger the security of the nation with their activities.

Government said the threats of the stay of the ex-cops in the country have been mitigated by their removal from the jurisdiction. They were deported Tuesday on board South African Airways flight number 210, which departed around 9:26 to Johannesburg.

The three retired South African police officers were arrested in the Central Region while training the NPP’s flagbearer, Nana Addo’s security detail ahead of the elections.

But Gen. Nunoo-Mensah has flayed government for the unnecessary political tension on the issue and described as only creating a storm in a tea-cup with regards to government’s resolve handling the three South African nationals.

He told Morning show host Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM that what government accused the three for was quiet worrying since in his view, it’s quiet weird for a perceived mercenary having a tainted motive to go through proper channels obtaining visa into a country.

“This is waste of time. There are very important things to concentrate than the petty political propaganda in Ghana. If indeed they have breached the laws they should have allow the courts to try them.

“Syrians and Afghanistan are still grappling with the excesses of war, we should be careful of the tension we create in this country”
