Careless driver in court for causing harm

Tema, April 08, GNA- The Tema Circuit Court 'B', has imposed a fine of 10 million cedis on a 23-year- old driver, who hit nine children, killing four of them on the spot at Agomeda, near Dodowa through careless driving.

The accused, Emmanuel Kwadjo Wejisa who pleaded guilty to careless driving and eight counts of negligently causing harm would serve five years imprisonment in default. He was also banned from driving for two years.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor told the court presided over by Mr Stephen K. Teye that on October 13, 2004, Wejisa lost control of a vehicle he was driving when he reached Agomeda and veered off the road, knocking down the children. Three of the victims were rushed to Agomeda clinic where they were treated and discharged while two others were admitted at the Atua Government Hospital at Somanya.
