Carpenter remanded for attempted rape

Tema, Oct. 16, GNA - A 29-year-old carpenter at Lebanon at Ashaiman, who attempted to rape a 17-year-old girl, has been remanded by the Tema Circuit Court 'B'.

Francis Fiakeye Dotse, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and will re-appear on Friday, October 22.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that on October 2, this year, at 2200 hours, while the girl was having her bath, the accused person suddenly entered the bathroom and held the victim.

The victim then with soap leather in her face, quickly washed her face with water only to realise that it was the accused person who had made an attempt on her.

Chief Inspector Nutakor said the victim poured some water on the accused person, and he rushed out of the bathroom. The prosecution said the girl later reported the matter to the Ashaiman Police.

At dawn on October 7, the accused person was arrested, but he denied the charge, stating that he had been framed up. Investigations are ongoing, the prosecution added.
