Castle Police Boss in BNI Cells

ACP Nana Bediako Poku a traditional ruler from Jamasi in the Ashanti region who was the Osu Castle Police Security Commander under President J.A. Kufuor, is in a smelly heap of some ¢29 billion financial trouble having been accused of shortchanging close to 800 Security officers, who soldiered for the eight years that the NPP was in power.

For his troubles Nana Bediako was locked up at the BNI cells in Accra, and has since been forced to return some ¢13 billion (from the largesse which should have been paid as gratuity to the Policemen). He is alleged to have used the cash in opening bank accounts in the name of his children even though questions THE SUN threw at him so confused him that, he first of all parried them over the bar before denying outright ever being locked up whatsoever. There is also evidence to show that the security capo has been frequenting the BNI cells once too often, whenever new and incriminating pieces of evidence crop up. THE SUN learnt that it was on one of those anxious moments that Nan Bediako allegedly revealed that ex-President Kufuor walked home into retirement with a number of bullet proof cars, leading to their retrieval. THE SUN's further probings have established that it was the former Chief of Staff old Kwadwo Mpiani who was originally billed to undertake the disbursement but was somewhat hurriedly taken over by Nana Bediako, using the twin security gentlemen of Chief Inspector Boadu who has since fled to cool of in London with his wife, and DSP Amankwaa who was actually third in command at the Castle security.

Senior officers were supposed to have benefitted by a booty of ¢23,000 for eight years service but some actually picked a feeble ¢10,000 while junior officers were paid some ¢5,000 for their troubles. One affected security officer told THE SUN that Nana Bediako had a way of sizing up whoever was to benefit by the package and simply throwing a pittance at him. In that space of time the security ace was said to have paid a paltry ¢16 billion to the 800 security personnel, some of who did not take it kindly, and went as far as reading several meanings into the exercise which then aroused levels of suspicion at security corridors.

National Security Cordinator Lt. Col. Gbevlo Lartey then sank his interogatory teeth into the matter and actually queried Nana Bediako on the development, and is also said to have listened to the moaning Police men who were not exactly expecting the heavens, but just a deserving financial handshake showing appreciation all these years.

THE SUN discovered that what could happend from here is quite murky and not even a guess game can establish a future outcome since further investigations have established that Nana Bediako has currently been given a desk so he could be monitored through and through.

It will be recalled that Nana Bediako took over from DSP Timbillah as the head of President Kufuor's Castle Security when he strangely resurfaced after grilling the former President over some Italian businessmen prior to the 2000 General Elections. According to one of the complaining Policemen who was shortchanged amogn the rest of the others, it was so much of a shock that the troubled Security capo showed up after that exercise when indeed he had showcased so many antagonistic stances against the Ex- President Kufour.
