The Queen mother of Gomoa Akyempem in the Central Region, Nana Asa Botchway III, is pushing for men found guilty of defilement to be castrated.
Her call comes on the back of recent cases of defilement recorded in the region, the topical one being the case in which a four-year-old girl was defiled by a community member at Assin Adadientem in the Central Region which attracted huge public uproar.
The Queen mother is confident that such stiffer punishment will deter others from committing such barbaric acts.
She noted that some chiefs and opinion leaders are always quick in intervening for their family members who are arrested for such crimes by going to beg police commanders in their area for the release of the culprits, a situation that emboldens others to perpetrate the reprehensible act.
“This practice has to stop as the victims suffer, some have their future ruined after being defiled. Chiefs in the habit of always begging for people who are found guilty of defilement must stop their shameful deeds. If I had my own way men who defile girls must be castrated. If they’re castrated that will stop them from continuing with that behaviour, and this will also scare others from defiling girls.”
