Catholic Priests organise clean-up at Ejisu

Ejisu (Ash), Dec. 26, GNA- The Priests and Seminarians of the University College of Spiritan Institute of Philosophy at Ejisu in the Ejisu-Juaben District of Ashanti have organised a four-hour clean-up exercise at Ejisu. The exercise involved a cross-section of the youth in the town. They swept and cleared weeds along the access road from Ejisu round-about to the University College, scrubbed the wards and surroundings of the Ejisu Government Hospital and painted one of the wards.

They also disilted gutters along Ejisu High Streets. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Ejisu after the exercise, Rev. Father Joojo Obu-Mends, Dean of Academics of the University College said the university organized the exercise to climax their third Academic Week Celebrations with the theme; "The Environment" and also to indicate their commitment to the environmental health needs of the people in the District.

He said the exercise was a way of discharging one of their social responsibilities to the community in which they operate. Fr. Obu-Mends, implored Ghanaians to cultivate the spirit of environmental cleanliness to help reduce the incidence of contagious diseases.

He said the Catholic University College of Spiritan Institute of Philosophy would continue to embark on such exercises regularly in the Ejisu township and its near-by towns and villages. The Dean of Academics was unhappy about the way some Ghanaians disposed off their waste, which facilitate the spread of some diseases. Fr. Obu-Mends, however, appealed to the traditional leaders in the country to rekindle their communal spirit activities to help improve the environmental condition of the country.
