Catholic community to hold blood donation exercise

The Catholic community in Ghana will be embarking on a nationwide Catholic Blood Donation Campaign to help save lives.

The exercise, dubbed: “Be there for someone. Give Blood,” seeks to donate a total of 10,000 units of blood by the end of the year.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Maame K Stephens, the Brand Ambassador of the National Blood Service Ghana, and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the campaign is on the theme: “Family of God: Give blood so others may live”.

According to the statement, the Most Reverend Philip Naameh, Archbishop of Tamale Archdiocese and President of Ghana Catholic Bishops, noted that giving blood is “a way of giving back to God what he has blessed man with.”

It said the programme would be officially launched on May 4th 2019, together with a logo during the Episcopal Ordination of John Alphonse Asiedu, of Donkorkrom, Eastern Region.

It encouraged all Catholics and friends of the Catholic Community to participate and support in the blood donation to help save lives.

The need for blood continues to be an issue in Ghana and in other to fulfil the blood requirement, which is just one per cent, there is the need to create the needed awareness to get voluntary donors.
