Winneba (C/R) July 7 GNA - Eight out of the twelve existing district Assemblies in the Central Region have so far been equipped with Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) dish each, out of their own resources for broadband connectivity, under a public-private partnership with NETPLUX limited Internet Services Provider in Accra.
Seven districts have their VSAT equipment already installed, of these, the Twifo-Heman-Lower-Denkyira, Upper Denkyira and Asikuma Ododen Brakwa districts not only have Internet Connective but also boast of well-equipped Internet centres to serve the public. The Central Regional Minister, Mr. Isaac Edumadze said this in his keynote address read for him by the Effutu-Awutu-Senya District Chief Executive, Captain (Rtd) Steve Kwamena Armah at a day's seminar on Electronic-Governance (E Governance) at Winneba on Tuesday for District Chief Executives and their coordinating directors and district information officers in the Central Region.
The Seminar organized by the Ghana Information Network for Knowledge Sharing (GINKS), an NGO and non-profit Organization in partnership with the Institute for Local Governance and the Ministry of Information, was under the theme: "Promoting E-Governance at the local level".
It was aimed at introducing and discussing into detail the concept of E-governance and how best to introduce it at the local level. Mr. Edumadze said that the seminar could therefore, not have come at a more opportune time than now, "when many of the districts in the Central Region are implementing or planning ICT projects".
He hoped that after the seminar, participants would be in a position to fashion out useful and fahion out ways of using ICT to improve good governance in their districts.
The Regional Minister said that the government, through its commitment to good governance, is aggressive pursuing ICTs as a tool that could be used to improve efficient in government work and also to promote good governance.
In his welcoming address, the Co-ordinator of GINKS, Mr. Kofi Mangesi urged participants to take the seminar seriously since E-governance plays an important role in the development of the country.
