Chief Justice gives Upper West special dispensation

Wa, May 5, GNA - The Chief Justice, Mr. George Kingsley Acquah has given special dispensation to the Upper West Region to select five of its citizens to join the next batch of trainee career magistrates. The five would-be trainee career magistrates should however be holders of a diploma certificate from a recognised tertiary institution, and also must not be more than 40 years of age.

Justice Acquah gave this dispensation following a special request by the Regional Minister, Mr. Sahanun Mogtari when he paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Wa.

The Chief Justice is in the region as part of his familiarisation tour of the Northern, Upper West and Upper East Regions. The Upper West Region has only one high court judge and two circuit court judges.

In making the request, Mr. Mogtari noted with disappointment the refusal by many public servants to accept postings to the region thereby denying many state organisations of their required compliment of staff. Mr. Justice Acquah who outlined the career prospects of the trainee magistrates, said on completion of their training they could rise as magistrates to senior, principal and chief magistrates.
