Chief appeals for District Police Command

Sunyani, Oct. 6, GNA - Nana Owusu Takyi III, Paramount Chief of Bass= a Traditional Area in Sene District, has appealed to the Police Administratio= n to appoint a District Police Commander for the area. He said there was the need for the establishment of District Police headquarters at Kwame Danso, with a resident District Commander to grant them autonomy from the Atebubu District Command. Nana Owusu Takyi made the appeal at a capacity building training workshop on Domestic Violence for 13 regional level committee members in Brong Ahafo. The workshop, organised by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and sponsored by the Embassy of Netherlands, was under the theme "Co-ordination of the Implementation, DV Act. 2007(Act 732)". He said the district was large and had recorded many cases of domestic violence but with its vastl size, large population and multi-ethnic and religious composition, it had only three police stations at Kwame Danso, Bassa and Kwadwokrom. Nana Owusu Takyi said the three stations have inadequate police personnel in relation to the district's population hence the creation of a district police command would help to increase their number and efficiency. Hajia Boya Gariba, the Deputy Minister of Women and Children's Affai= rs, inaugurated the regional, district and community level committee.
