Chief appeals for furniture for school to avoid its collapse

Mpasaso Number One (Ash), Jan 16, GNA - A traditional ruler has expressed concern about the poor state of furniture at the Mpasaso Number One Junior Secondary School (JSS) and said it could lead to the collapse of the school if measures were not taken by the community and the government to address the problem.

Nana Tabiri Gyansah 111, the Paramount chief of the Mpasaso Traditional Area, said this when he visited the school and found out that most the furniture were broken, compelling pupils to write from the floor.

The chief, while commending the district assembly for building the junior secondary school block, appealed to the assembly to also provide adequate furniture to facilitate learning. Nana Gyansah said what was more disturbing was the lack of chairs and tables for teachers, compelling them to either keep standing throughout the lessons or make temporary use of pupils broken tables and chairs.

"Equally lacking are cupboards to stock books", he said. Nana Gyansah commended the teachers who, despite the situation, were still giving off their best and assured them of putting in place packages that would motivate them.

He advised parents not to use the lack of furniture as an excuse to refuse sending their children to school but should see it as a challenge to enrol their children in school.
