Atebubu (B/A) April 16 GNA - Police at Atebubu have arrested a faction leader in a chieftaincy dispute at Akokoa, near Atebubu, who carried a gun to a meeting convened to settle the dispute.
The suspect, Okatakyie Marfo II, Krontihene, was on Friday arraigned at Atebubu community tribunal charged with the illegal possession of a locally manufactured pistol. He was granted bail.
The tribunal, presided over by Nana Adutwum Mmorosa, has ordered him to re-appear on Tuesday, April 18. Chief Inspector Kwabena Kusi Arhin told newsmen that the Atebubu Traditional Council convened the meeting on Friday, April Seven, to settle the dispute.
He said when the Police searched all those attending, the gun was found on the suspect, but without any ammunition. In another development, the tribunal remanded a 32 year-old woman, who allegedly killed her rival on their husband's farm in custody to re-appear on Tuesday, April 25.
A Police source said Adjoa Mansa, the suspect, and her rival Akosua Balam, who was five months pregnant, went to the farm to collect yam seedlings. A quarrel ensued between them and this led to a fight during which the deceased fell down unconscious.
The source said the suspect rushed home to report to the husband, who together with some people went to the farm to find Balam dead.
