Chief commends Kufuor for nominating Mr Dery as UW Regional Minister

Wa, Jan. 17, GNA - Kuoro Buktie Liman, Paramount Chief of Gwollu Traditional Area in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region, on Monday commended President John Agyekum Kufuor for nominating Mr Ambrose Dery for the appointment as the Regional Minister. He said President Kufuor had made a good choice because Mr Dery was the type of personality the Upper West Region needed to spearhead its development.

Kuoro Liman, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Wa, said: "Mr Dery, who hails from Nandom Traditional Area, is a humble and excellent Lawyer and having lived and worked in the Region knows the problems confronting our people and I firmly believe that he would perform creditably if given the nod by Parliament."

The Gwollu Chief, who is also President of the Regional House of Chiefs and a Legal Practitioner, said he was very optimistic that the Regional Minister-designate would bring the attributes, which propelled him to the top in his profession to bear on his new job. Kuoro Liman further commended President Kufuor for his decision to launch special initiatives for cotton and sorghum as captured in his inaugural speech at the Independence Square.

These initiatives, he noted, would serve as milestones towards the elimination of mass poverty in the three Northern Regions, as they would inspire the people to produce more of these crops.
