The Bekwai Circuit court presided over by His Honour Frederick Nawula has granted Nana Kofi Asumanin, Chief of Fresco in the Bosome Freho District in the Ashanti region, bail for raping a 12-year-old primary 5 pupil.
His lawyer pleaded for the bail stating that the Chief was arrested on 17th May, and all the necessary investigations should have been done by the prosecution rather than asking the court to still remand him in police custody for further investigations.
It was medically proven that the victim was penetrated and bruised by the Chief.
The chief reportedly asked the victim to go to his house to take GHC10, which was supposed to be payment for some firewood he had bought from her widowed mother.
The girl was allegedly raped by the chief when she went to his house for the money on the first day; he, however, refused to pay the money and warned her not to tell her mother what he had done, promising her to come for the money the next day.
He raped her again the next day and still refused to give the money to the girl.
The 12-year-old girl rushed home weeping and reported the incident to her mother.
The chief denied the allegation and publicly invoked curses on the girl and her mother.
A police medical report, however, confirmed that the girl had actually been penetrated multiple times and heavily bruised, thereby resulting in the immediate arrest of the chief.
