The Chief of Nkawtakese Traditional Area of the Ashanti region, Nana Boakye Yam Ababio Yiadom, has added his voice to the recent president's donation of vehicles to the National House of Chiefs across the ten regions of the country for its administrative duties.
He said the President’s decision to support the National House of chiefs with vehicles does not mean they have been bribed. He described the misinterpretation of the public as unfair and undermining of the credibility of chiefs in the country.
Nana Yiadom indicated that Chiefs in this country will not stoop low by accepting bribe from any political party. “The vehicles that were given by the president are meant for the National House of Chiefs and not for individual chiefs and so the public need to be corrected."
He said the National House of Chiefs is a governmental body being managed by government and have the right to receive logistics from the government for their administrative operations. Nana Boakye Ababio stated categorically that the cars did not come as bribe because government institutions are entitled to logistics, and the National House of Chiefs is not excluded.
He contended that the public need to note that chiefs also play an important role in nation building where they initiate traditional laws, peace, unity among others in the society and need to be recommended and treated with a high level of decorum in the society.
“It’s a shame for people who clearly understand the position and roles of chiefs to look beyond the rightful box to smear chiefs with political colors.
We as chiefs, being guided by our ethics, being guided by our ethics and values, will never engage in a bribery conduct as the public is claiming,” he said.
