Chief urges parents to assist teachers

Breme-Bechem (B/A), Jan. 28, GNA - Nana Amankwa Boakye-Yiadom, Chief of Breme, near Bechem in the Tano South District of Brong Ahafo has urged parents and teachers to collaborate efforts towards improving teaching and learning in schools.

He noted that people often blamed teachers for the poor performance of schools but stressed that parents were equally guilty since most of them failed to live up to their responsibilities to provide their children with the basic learning materials to facilitate teaching. Nana Amankwa was addressing a Parent-Teachers Association meeting organized by the Breme Cluster of schools to address truancy, immoral behaviour and lateness to school among pupils and teachers.

He called for peaceful co-existence between parents so they could share ideas for the effective supervision of pupils during and after school.

The chief warned parents against going to insult teachers in school whenever their children were punished for undisciplined acts, saying the practice was not a good signal for peaceful co-existence. Mr. N.N.N. Acheampong, headteacher, appealed to parents to visit the school regularly to ascertain the progress of their children.
