Chiefs Appeal to Youth to Shun Bad Sexual Practices

The Gyaasehene of the Berekum Traditional Area, Nana Okofo Dartey III, has stated that pre-marital sex among the youth is the main cause of the spread of HIV/AIDS and urged them to eschew the practice.

He expressed regret that despite the intense public awareness education on the dangers of the disease and how to prevent its spread, many people are still showing a "care free" attitude towards unprotected sex.

Nana Okofo Darteh, who is a retired educationist, was speaking to SpaceNews at Berekum on the dangers the HIV/AIDS disease pose to the youth of the country. He cautioned the youth that HIV/AIDS is real and that they should avoid unguarded sexual tendencies.

He also stressed the need for communities to periodically embark on clean-up exercises to rid their environmental of preventable diseases.

Meanwhile, the Omanhene of the Sunyani Traditional Area, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, has called on the youth not to turn deaf ears to the campaign on HIV/AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

He said the HIV/AIDS is spreading fast and there is therefore the need for people especially the youth to be careful about sexual promiscuity.

Also speaking to Space News on the line from form his palace, Nana, who is also an educationist, advised persons, especially the youth to go for voluntary counselling and testing to know their HIV/AIDS status and to seek prompt medical attention when infected.

He expressed the need for herbal practitioners to collaborate to find a cure for the pandemic and advised people against bad eating habit, smoking, alcoholism and drug abuse to improve on their health.
