Chiefs advised to be calm over the creation of new districts

Nyinahin (Ash), Aug 19, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor has advised chiefs, opinion leaders and communities to be calm while the government looked into their request for the creation of new districts in their areas.

He said all was not lost since it is the commitment of the government to create more districts to cater for such areas in the country.

The advice was contained in an address read for the President by Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Communication and Technology at the inauguration of the newly created Atwima-Mponua district at Nyinahin on Thursday.

President Kufuor said the creation of new districts was a process and should not just be perceived as an event.

He advised the new districts to remain focused and device workable strategies that would help them improve on the living conditions of the people in the areas.

President Kufuor stressed the need for staff of the assembly not to lord it over the people but genuinely serve and collaborate with them. Mr Charles Yeboah, the Atwima District Chief Executive, observed that the new district is very rich in natural resources and could easily accelerate its development.

He therefore, appealed to investors to take advantage of the vast and rich potentials of the district and invest in the area. A 52-year-old teacher, Mr Joseph Osei Hamlet was elected the Presiding Member of the assembly.

Nana Ampane Twum Boateng, Nyinahinhene, who presided, commended the government for creating the district and pledged the co-operation of the chiefs and people to the staff of the assembly.
