Nana Ayimedu Obrempong III, Krontihene of Adjena has called for collaboration between traditional rulers and security agencies to fight human trafficking through unapproved routes during the coronavirus pandemic season.
He said there were a lot of unapproved routes at the borders, people were trafficked or smuggled, which was dangerous in this coronavirus season,as such persons could be coronavirus positive.
He explained that some of the covid-19 cases were the results of people trafficked or smuggled through unapproved routes at the borders into the country.
Obrempong Ayimedu was speaking at a meeting with the chiefs and people of his community which was also attended by other stakeholders from the health centre.
He also educated the community on the need to frequently wash their hands under running water with soap, observe social distancing, use hand sanitizers and wear nose masks to help reduce the spread or contracting the coronavirus.
He pleaded with all traditional rulers to assist in the education of people in their communities so that they do not stigmatize affected persons who have recovered from the coronavirus. Obrempong Ayimedu admonished the youth and opinion leaders across the border towns to insist that everyone used the approved check points so that they could be screened by health officers ,rather than going through unapproved routes.
Obrempong Ayimedu commended the security agencies for the good work they are doing both at the borders and in the town during this coronavirus season.
Obrempong Ayimedu is also the founder and leader of Coalition of Traditional Rulers Against Trafficking Persons (COTRATIP) comprising 47 traditional rulers across Africa
