Chiefs and people express gratitude for new district

Ho, Dec. 3, GNA - Chiefs and opinion leaders from Ketu-North on Monday described the recent creation of the Ketu-North district as a surprise package to them and their people.

This was when a large delegation comprising Chiefs, queen mothers Assembly members called on Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister, to express their appreciation to government for the creation of the new district.

Togbi Adrakpanya V, Fiaga of Afife and spokesman of the delegation, said it took 18 years for their dream for an independent district to materialize and pledged to demonstrate their gratitude concretely. "From Keta to Ketu to Ketu-North", he said of the journey to district status, which he said was "a pleasant surprise" because they did not put in any effort this time. Togbi Adzofia V of Dzodze said the creation of the new district would serve as impetus to galvanize all traditional areas towards speedy development of the new district.

He called for collaboration between the chiefs and the relevant state agencies involved in the demarcation of new electoral areas in the district.

Mr Justice Cudjoe, District Chief Executive for Ketu, said the new district had the potential to develop, depending on the level of support they gave the government in implementing its programmes for the area. He said they would require a spokesman who would speak "same language" as the government.

Mr Dzamesi urged chiefs from the four traditional areas, Afife, Dzodze, Wheta and Penyi, to educate their young men and young women as to how far and difficult it was to attain the district status. He noted with delight that the creation of the new district seemed to have unified the four traditional areas and advised them to prevail on their people to make it easy for government to undertake development projects in the new district.

The delegation presented some gifts to Mr Dzamesi and Mr Tommy Amematekpor, the President's Special Advisor for championing the interest of the new district. 03 Dec. 07
