Accra, March 12, GNA- Chiefs in the Gomoa East Constituency of the Gomoa District have petitioned President John Agyekum Kufuor to appoint a District Chief Executive from the Constituency. The 33 petitioners, including Queenmothers, observed that ever since the District was created, all the District Chief Executives had been appointed from Gomoa West Constituency, creating the impression that there were no eligible people in the East. The four-page petition was presented to the President through the Chief of Staff, in Accra,
Nana Buaben Yedu Nkum, Chief of Amoanda and Nana Ahunako Bonsu III, Chief of Buduatta, who were among the delegation to the Osu Castle, made a copy of the petition available to the Ghana News Agency. "We have not lost cognisance of the fact that; it is the prerogative of the President to nominate a candidate for approval to occupy the seat at the district level," the petition said. "We believe, however, that given this input, the President will be in a position to make an informed decision." The petition said such an appointment would be fair, honourable and would create the atmosphere for peace and development.
The traditional Leaders noted that for the sake of equity when a District Chief Executive was appointed from a section of the District, the Presiding Member of the Assembly should come from the other side. They also expressed the need for the Government to make Gomoa East an autonomous district.
