Fiaso (B/A), Jan. 22, GNA - Nana Effah Boakye, Fiaso Krontihene and Chairman of the Techiman Municipal Anti-Bush Fire Squad, has observed that fire is beneficial when handled properly but could be equally destructive when carelessly used.
He noted that even in those days when people were living in thatched houses, they never experienced the outbreak of bushfires, and therefore, wondered why in these days of information technology and communication advancement, fire outbreaks should become the order of the day.
Nana Boakye made the observation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Fiaso on Thursday.
He therefore, called on Chiefs in the various communities in the Municipality to give moral support to Fire Volunteer Squads as their civic duty to protect their own lives and property from outbreak of bushfires.
He urged the people to be law abiding by refraining from violating laws relating to fire prevention and conflicts and charge those who indulge in group hunting to put an end to the practice in order to curb the incidence of bushfires as results.
Nana Boakye advised smokers to extinguish their cigarettes before throwing the piece away, since any negligence could result in fire disaster during this pick of the dry season.
He also urged palm wine tapers to be cautious in handling the fir they use while on the farm as bush fire affects the economic by destroying economic trees such as cocoa, cashew and coffee.
He warned that, offenders of bush fires would be dealt with and appealed to the Ghana National Fire Service, Municipal Assembly and the security agencies connected to the campaign against bush burning to give the squads the needed legal backing to stem the situation in the Municipality.
