Some La chiefs have been spotted with protesters leading the gathering at the Labadi Beach Hotel in the ongoing “Hands Off Our Hotels” demonstration.

The La chiefs, clad in white, along with the chief priest of the La Tradition Council, Numoo Yemi VII and the convener, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, are demonstrating to press the government to halt the sale of 60 per cent shares in four hotels owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to Rock City Hotel, a company owned by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.

The hotels involved in the controversial sale are the Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Elmina Beach Resort, and Busua Beach Resort.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, and the protest convener, argued that selling state properties to government officials constitutes an abuse of power and should be stopped.

The protest began at the Labadi Beach Hotel and will be concluded at the Christ the King School, located just a few meters from the Jubilee House.
