Adako-Jachie (Ash), March 27, GNA- Mr Festus Boadi-Soadwa, Ejisu-Juaben District Director of Education, has appealed to chiefs and opinion leaders in the district to initiate bylaws that would prevent school children from taking active part in social activities that could undermine their education.
He said the involvement of school children in funeral celebrations and the watching of video shows and concerts had been identified as having negative effects on the academic performance of school children.
Mr Boadi-Soadwa made the appeal at the closing of the annual girl education week celebration organised by the Fumesua circuit of the district education directorate at Adako-Jachie near Ejisu on Friday.
The celebration was marked with poetry recitals, drama and cultural displays on the importance of the girl-child education.
He said the institution of the girl education week in the district in 1999, was to sensitise all stakeholders in the district on the importance of girl-child education.
He said girl-child enrolment in schools increased from 7,885 in 1999 to 8,960 in 2004 at the primary school level.
