Chiefs urged to prevent bushfires

Adaklu-Tsrefe, (V/R), Feb. 22, GNA- Togbe Dzitor V, Chief of Adaklu-Abuadi on Saturday urged the Chiefs and people of the Adaklu Traditional area to help prevent bushfires in the area. He said the people owed it a duty to guard against a heritage of fertile land and wildlife inherited from the older folks by checking bush burning. Togbe Dzitor who is the Ho District Prevention Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was speaking at a fundraising durbar of the Chiefs and people of the traditional area in aid of pipe-borne water supply project.

He warned that the indiscriminate bush burning in the area was affecting the stability of the Adaklu mountain which if not checked could trigger a disaster in the area.

Togbe Dzitor said such fires have destroyed several wooden electricity poles in the area, adding "some of us bow down our heads whenever Adaklu is mentioned for being notorious for setting bushfires." He asked the Ho District Assembly to check the destructive activities of Fulani herdsmen in the area who set fire in the bush in a bid to facilitate fodder for their animals.
