Chieftaincy disputes is a threat to security in Eastern Region - Minister to AG

The Hon Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour has stated that one major challenge confronting the region in recent times is the issue of Chieftaincy disputes.

Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour according to him, the Chieftaincy disputes in Eastern Region is becoming alarming and a threat to the security in the region. “Out of Eleven Paramount Seats that we have at the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, only five is being occupied by Paramount Chief, this cannot be acceptable, he lamented”. He said.

The regional minister made this known when the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Gloria Akuffo together with her Chief Director and some key staff at the ministry pay a courtesy call on him at his office on Tuesday, February 27, 2018.

The visit form part of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice programmes to tour all the ten Regional Offices of Attorney General Department in the country to interact with the staff and find out the challenges affecting the delivery of their mandates.

Mr. Eric Kwakye Darfour thanked the Minister for the visit and pledged his full support for the department in the region. He spoke about some challenges the region is confronted and called on the AG office to assist in resolving them.

With regards to the clashes between Fulani herdsmen and the indigenous people Kwahu and its surrounding communities, Hon Eric Kwakye Darfour said the current report from the ground is disturbing in the sense that there is allegations of some of the soldiers sent to the area to ensure peace have started shooting the cattle.

Ms. Gloria Akuffo expressed her appreciations for the warm reception accorded her by the Minister and advised that the Regional Minister together with his Regional Security Council members officially informed the National Security Ministry about the recent reports on the killings of the cattle by the soldiers since that cannot be acceptable if found to be true.

Present at the meeting were the Hon. Deputy Eastern Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo, Hon. Joseph Tetteh, the Regional Co-ordinating Director Mr. R. K. Sambo.
