Chinese Embassy Donates Machines To MOWAC

The Chinese Embassy has presented ten sets of Butterfly sewing machines worth $1000 to the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs in Accra.

Mr Zheng Ke Yuan, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana presented the machines to the Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs, Mrs Gladys Asmah. He said the gesture was to support the empowerment of the youth, especially women.

Mr Ke Yuan hoped the machines would help to equip women with employable skills and help reduce hawkers on the streets. He commended Ghanaian women who he described as hard working and was optimistic that the skills acquired would go a long way to improve the living standards of their families.

Mrs Asmah thanked the Ambassador and said the machines had come at a very opportune time when her Ministry is poling resources to help equip street children with skills to reduce hawking on the streets and give them a meaningful life instead of what pertains now. She said the Ministry aims at adopting a strategy to help the youth acquire tools to work with and pay later.

She appealed to other organizations to help support the initiative to assist women to be economically independent in the society.
