The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Shi Ting Wang, on Tuesday, 27th November 2018, made a donation of $18,000 to the Ghana Aids Commission, at a ceremony at the Office of the Premier Ambassador of Ghana for HIV Advocacy, Elimination of Mother to Child HIV Transmission, Keeping Mothers Alive and the Empowerment of Young Women and Adolescent Girls, H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
According to the Chinese Ambassador, “the fight against HIV and AIDS is a key focus for China-Africa cooperation under the framework of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation. In this regard, China has sent medical teams to more than 40 African countries and provided anti-HIV drugs, medical equipment and materials for free"
The First lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo- Addo, called for increased actions to combat HIV and AIDs and charged the Ghana Aids Commission and all organizations and institutions involved in the fight against AIDS, to collaborate more effectively to stop new infections, to achieve zero transmission.
The Ambassador recalled that on the 4th of September 2018, H.E. Prof. Peng Liyuan, wife of H.E. President Xi Jinping, and other spouses of States Leaders of African member countries of FOCAC including H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, met on the margins of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, to jointly launch the China-Africa HIV Advocacy Campaign and gave the assurance that the Chinese government will continue to work in collaboration with Africa to ensure that the HIV/AIDS menace is reduced to the barest minimum..
