Christ Is President - President Mills

The President, John Evans Atta Mills, has once again said that Christ is the President of Ghana and he owes no one any apologies for the statement which, according to him, is his guiding principle as head of state.

President Mills said this in a speech he delivered at the 39th General Council Meeting of the Church Of Pentecost which was on the theme ‘Being Led by the Spirit of God’ at Sowutuom in Accra.

President Mills explained that in the current scheme of things, it was only relevant to acknowledge that Christ being in the vessel of each person’s life, there was no degree of turmoil that could overwhelm them.

The President, who touched on a number of issues, also commended the Church of Pentecost for its role in influencing both the spiritual and physical well-being of Ghanaians and the international community. He described the Church of Pentecost as a praying church which always interceded for Ghana.

President Mills assured Ghanaians that he would ensure that the Electoral Commission was well resourced to enable it to conduct free and fair general elections in 2012.

The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah, said the Church of Pentecost operated in eighty-four countries worldwide and had a total membership of 1,980,843. Cote D’ Ivoire and Benin, which have a combined population of 122,170, have been given their full autonomy by the church administration.

Apostle Opoku Onyinah added that membership of the church in the country is 1,703,585 with 11,874 local churches representing 7.03% of Ghana’s total population.

Apostle Opoku Onyinah, who has also been elected as the President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), said the Church of Pentecost continued to embark on a number of projects as its social responsibility.

The Chairman announced that Apostle Emmanuel Gyasi had been appointed by the Executive Council of the Church to take up the position of International Missions Director [IMD].
